New health minister assumes office
After assuming office, he decided to operate the Global Fund Programmes from the government level
KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Minister for Health and Population, Bhawani Prasad Khapung, assumed his office today. Prior to this, he was the Minister of State for Health and Population.
After assuming office, he decided to operate the Global Fund Programmes from the government level, according to Ministry Spokesperson Dr Sangita Kaushal Mishra.
On the occasion, he pledged to ensure quality and accessible healthcare facilities for the people and to launch health camps targeting the rural people.
The decision to implement the Global Fund programmes shall come into effect after the Council of Ministers approves it, according to Mishra. The Global Fund programmes are to be brought under the subordination of the government since 2024 and a secretariat will be established to supervise the programmes.
Minister of State of Health Hira Chandra KC also assumed office on the occasion. Outgoing Minister for Health and Population Birodh Khatiwada welcomed the new ministers.
