Doctor removed the spoon stuck in abdomen without surgery
The spoon was removed without surgery and with no injuries to the 17-year-old girl who had accidentally swallowed it.
KATHMANDU: Doctors at Thapathali’s Norvic Hospital removed a spoon stuck in the stomach without performing surgery.
Dr. Sandipraj Kunwar, a digestive specialist at Norvic Hospital and the head of the Digestive Diseases Center, led a team that performed an endoscopy without surgery to remove the spoon stuck in the stomach.
The spoon was removed without surgery and with no injuries to the 17-year-old girl who had accidentally swallowed it.
Swallowing a spoon and having it get stuck in your stomach is a complicated phenomenon. Dr. Kunwar underwent a very safe endoscopy and surgical removal of the spoon in this case.
According to Dr. Kunwar, this was most likely the first case in Nepal where a spoon was safely removed from the stomach without surgery.
The team led by Dr. Kunwar has been extracting coins, pins swallowed by mistake and bones stuck by adults without any surgery.
After 45 minutes of effort, the spoon stuck in the stomach was removed without surgery. “There were no injuries or wounds sustained while removing the spoon,” Dr Kunwar said. “It is also an event that provides us with new successes and experiences.”
The patient, who had swallowed a spoon on Sunday, was monitored overnight and released on Monday morning after all conditions appeared normal.
