Men suspected of having monkeypox found to have leprosy

KATHMANDU: One person suspected of having monkeypox was found to have leprosy. According to Dr. Sangeeta Kaushal Mishra, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, leprosy has been confirmed in a person receiving treatment at Shukraraj Tropical and Communicable Diseases Hospital in Teku.

The leprosy bacterium was found in three samples of the men’s eyes and ears while conducting a’slit skin smear’ examination from six different locations at the National Public Health Laboratory, according to her. On Thursday, a 26-year-old man from Dubai was admitted to Teku Hospital on suspicion of monkeypox.

So far, monkeypox has appeared in 29 countries and infected over a thousand people, but no monkeypox patients have been found in Nepal so far.
