KATHMANDU: A mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were killed in a landslide in Khewang, Sirijangha Rural Municipality-7, Taplejung district.

Tulasa Adhikari and her daughter-in-law Yashoda Adhikari were killed after being buried in a landslide that fell from above the house last night.

According to Dr. Chitra Kumar Limbu, vice-chairperson of Sirijangha Rural Municipality, their body was found buried in a landslide. A road was built over the Adhikari’s house. The house was swept away by a landslide on the same road.

Yashoda’s husband, Bishnu Adhikari, was able to flee and save his life. Bishnu Adhikari has suffered serious injuries. Taplejung Chief District Officer Mahesh Kumar Pokharel stated that plans were being made to rescue him from the helicopter. While fleeing, he sustained serious injuries to his eyes, chest, and head. The landslide makes it difficult to transport him to the hospital for treatment by road.

A police team has reached on the scene. The landslide has swept away both the houses of the Adhikari and it is estimated that the nearby livestock has also been destroyed. Some houses in Ward No. 6 were also damaged by the landslide. Ten to fifteen families from these two wards have been displaced as a result of the landslide.
