Letter was sent by army during the Oli government to join SPP
Previously, the US embassy stated that Nepal had written letters of intent to join the SPP in 2015 and 2017.
KATHMANDU: It has been revealed that the Nepal Army has written a letter to the US Embassy requesting to participate in the US State Partnership Program (SPP).
According to a letter sent by the Nepal Army to US Ambassador Alaina B. Teplitz on October 27, 2015, the army has sent letters to Nepal requesting participation in the SPP.
KP Sharma, Chairperson of the CPN-UML Oli was Prime Minister at the time the letter was sent. On Ashoj 25, 2072 BS, Oli was appointed Prime Minister (12 October 2015).
Previously, the US embassy stated that Nepal had written letters of intent to join the SPP in 2015 and 2017. The embassy also stated that the US had approved Nepal’s request in 2019.
Similarly, CPN-Maoist Central Committee Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said on Thursday that the SPP agreement was reached during KP Sharma Oli’s government.
