KATHMANDU: Nepal is off to a shaky start in the ongoing triangular series in the United States as part of the ICC World Cup League-2. Nepal was defeated by Oman by 13 runs in the first match.

Nepal was all out for 198 runs in 49.4 overs while chasing Oman’s target of 212 runs. Nepal’s top scorer was Aarif Sheikh, who scored 66 runs, while Dev Khanal scored 34 runs.

Rohit Poudel scored 20 runs, Dipendra Singh Airee scored 16, Binod Bhandari scored 14, and Sompal Kami scored 13. Zeeshan Maqsood and Khawar Ali of Oman each took three wickets, while Bilal Khan took two.

Oman, who had won the toss and choose to bat first, lost eight wickets in 50 overs and scored 211 runs with the help of captain Zeeshan Maqsood’s century. Maqsood scored an unbeaten 104 runs. Similarly, Khawar Ali contributed 30 runs and Shoaib Khan 27 runs.

Karan KC of Nepal took five wickets, while captain Sandeep Lamichhane took two and Sompal Kami took one.

With this win, Oman now has 42 points from 34 games and leads Division League-2. Nepal is in sixth place with 12 points after six wins and seven losses in 13 games. Nepal will now play its second game against the United States on Saturday night.
