KATHMANDU: Locals in Bancharedanda, on the border of Dhading and Nuwakot, have stopped dumping the garbage.

Locals have stopped dumping garbage in Bancharedanda because they disagree with the agreement reached between the Ministry of Urban Development, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, and representatives of the garbage dumping area.

Representatives from the ministry, the metropolitian, the Kakani Rural Municipality of Nuwakot, and the Dhunibesi Municipality of Dhading had agreed to begin garbage disposal in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

However, the vehicles transporting garbage from Kathmandu were stopped by locals in the morning.

An employee of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Corporation informed them that they were not permitted to dispose of the garbage as they would not comply with the agreement. The stench has worsened as garbage has accumulated in the road since May 28.
