After Modi’s visit, 13,000 Indian tourists entered Lumbini
The graph of not only Indian tourists but also domestic and third-country tourists has increased.
KATHMANDU: Lumbini’s tourism sector, which has been reduced to nil by COVID-19, is gradually deteriorating. Lumbini, which has recently been overrun by domestic tourists, has seen an increase in the number of visitors from India and other countries.
With the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Lumbini, the Lumbini is also becoming a popular tourist destination for Indians. Modi visited Lumbini in May 16 to commemorate Buddha Jayanti. Since then, approximately 13,000 or 12,770 Indian tourists have visited Lumbini’s Mayadevi temple.
The graph of not only Indian tourists but also domestic and third-country tourists has increased. According to the Lumbini Development Fund, 782 tourists from 51 different third countries and 86,246 domestic tourists visited the Mayadevi temple in May ( Baisakh 18 to Jestha 17) alone.
The tourism industry grows as the risk of COVID-19 decreases. As a result, 69,775 Indian tourists visited Lumbini in the five months leading up to May 2022. Along with Indians, tourist arrivals from other countries are increasing.
