KATHMANDU: The collection of garbage in Kathmandu Valley has begun. Garbage collection, which had been suspended since May 30, has resumed, as agreed in an all-party meeting on Monday.

During an all-party meeting with Minister Ram Kumari Jhankri at the Ministry of Urban Development, it was agreed to collect garbage from Kathmandu and transfer it to Sisdol Bancharedanda. The Ministry of Urban Development, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, and the affected areas all signed the agreement.

Minister for Urban Development Ram Kumari Jhankri stated that a permanent solution to the waste management problem has been found. “A vital decision has been made. ‘It has been decided to move toward a permanent waste management solution,’ she said. The work will be completed in accordance with the standards, and a system will be established.’

A garbage collection agreement was reached at a meeting of people’s representatives, including Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Balendra Sah, Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol, and Deputy Mayor of Lalitpur Municipal Corporation Manjali Shakya, Chief of Affected Dhunibeshi Municipality Bal Krishna Acharya, and Chairperson of Kakani Rural Municipality Suman Tamang.

The agreement has been signed by Rabindra Bohara, director of Bancharedada Waste Management Project, Loknath Poudyal of Kathmandu Metropolitian, Haridatta Kandel of Dhunibeshi Municipality and Geeta Kumari Sharma, chief administrative officer of Kakani Rural Municipality.
