KATHMANDU: Monsoon season has begun in Nepal since Sunday. The monsoon has arrived in Nepal eight days earlier than the Department of Water and Meteorology had predicted.

On Sunday, the department issued a special weather bulletin stating that the monsoon has arrived in Nepal’s eastern region. Monsoon is expected to arrive in all parts of the country within a few days, according to the department.

According to senior meteorologist Indira Kandel, the monsoon season will begin soon due to the expansion of low-pressure areas. According to him, the monsoon arrived in Nepal a year ago, as the monsoon low-pressure system, which was built in Kerala, India, is expanding due to rising temperatures and increased migration.

According to meteorologist Kandel, the current monsoon is expected to last till September 20. She said that most parts of the country would receive above-average rainfall during the four-month monsoon season.

The Department of Water and Meteorology has also requested the concerned bodies to start preparations keeping in view the possibility of natural calamities including floods and landslides as there will be more rainfall than the previous year.
