In Pics: Local obstruction at Teku Garbage Collection Center

KATHMANDU: Since 4 a.m. this morning, locals have been obstructing the Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s garbage collection site at Teku.

Locals have staged a sit-in at the Teku collection center, claiming that garbage has accumulated there as a result of the closure of the Sisdol landfill site.

Garbage collection vehicles inside the collection center have been unable to leave due to the sit-in. A group of residents went to meet with Mayor Balendra Sah yesterday to discuss their concerns.

According to locals, Mayor Shah assured them during the meeting that Sisdol would be open soon.

However, they stated that no more garbage would be brought there until the garbage at the Teku collection center was picked up.

A delegation of metropolitans, led by Mayor Sah and Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol, arrived in Sisdol yesterday to learn more about the Sisdol landfill site and to meet with locals.

Garbage has been piling up in the metropolitan’ squares and streets for several days. Furthermore, the garbage problem has been exacerbated as a result of locals obstructing garbage dumping at the Teku Collection Center.
