In Pics: Bodies of 22 people died in a plane crash brought to Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: MAY. 31 – Due to inclement weather, the bodies of 22 people who died in a Tara Air plane crash at Thasang Rural Municipality-2 Sanosware in Mustang on Sunday afternoon have been brought to Kathmandu.

According to Prem Nath Thakur, the General Manager of Tribhuvan International Airport, the bodies of ten people who died in the plane were brought to Kathmandu on Monday evening, while the bodies of the remaining 12 people were brought to Kathmandu by a Nepal Army MI-17 helicopter.

According to him, the bodies that were brought to Kathmandu were taken to the TU Teaching Hospital. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), all 22 bodies will be handed over to their families following a postmortem at the TU Teaching Hospital.

To investigate the plane crash, the ministry formed a crash investigation commission on Monday, led by Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Prem Bahadur Ale. The ministry has established a five-member accident investigation commission, which will be led by senior aeronautical engineer Ratish Chandra Lal Suman.

Captain Dipu Jwarchan, Senior Maintenance Engineer Upendra Lal Shrestha, Senior Meteorologist Maniratna Shakya, and Joint Secretary of the Ministry Buddhisagar Lamichhane are members of the commission.

Fog is said to be present at the crash site, which is more than 4,000 meters above sea level. On Sunday morning, the plane was found wrecked on a hill at the foot of Manapathi Himal.

The Tara Air flight with 9N-AET callsign, which flew from Pokhara to Jomsom at 9:55 am on Sunday, lost contact with the tower at Jomsom Airport at 10:07 am.

The airline and the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal on Monday afternoon released the names of the deceased.
