KATHMANDU: MAY. 25 – The Nepali Congress has been elected mayor of Katari Municipality in the district of Udayapur.

By 465 votes, Rajesh Chandra Shrestha of the Nepali Congress (NC) defeated independent candidate Krishna Prasad Baral.

Shrestha polled 6,417 votes out of a total of 25,754 votes cast, while Baral received 5,952 votes.

Geet Khadka of the UML has been elected deputy mayor. Khadka defeated UCPN (Maoist) coalition candidate Binod Katuwal by a margin of 2,592 votes. Khadka secured 6,413 votes, while Katuwal secured only 3,821 votes.
