POKHARA: MAY. 25 – Dhanraj Acharya has been elected as Pokhara Metropolitan City’s 15th Mayor.

According to the counting of votes that ended last night, Acharya defeated UML candidate Krishna Thapa to become the 15th mayor.

Acharya secured 58,669 votes, while Thapa secured 52,818 votes. Shankar Kharal, the RPP’s mayoral candidate, got 5,657 votes, while independent candidate Ganesh Poudel polled 2,951 votes.

Manju Devi Gurung of the UML has been elected deputy mayor. She was re-elected after defeating coalition candidate Kopila Ranabhat. Gurung obtained 60,372 votes, while Ranabhat polled 57,58 votes. Ranjana Sen of the RPP secured 5,683 votes.

Meanwhile, Acharya’s opponent Thapa has congratulated him on his victory.
