Birgunj’s mayor is Singh, and the deputy mayor is Alam

KATHMANDU: MAY. 24 – Coalition candidates have won the post of mayor and deputy mayor of Birgunj Metropolitian of Parsa district.

Rajeshman Singh of JSP won the mayoral post with 46,215 votes. His nearest rival CPN-UML candidate Bijay Kumar Sarawagi got 23,671 votes.

Singh defeated his nearest rival Sarawagi, the incumbent mayor of Birgunj by 22,544 votes and was elected as the mayor of the only metropolitian of Madhesh State.

Similarly, Nepali Congress coalition candidate Imtiaz Alam won with a total of 25,158 votes for the post of deputy mayor while his nearest rival Purushottam Lal Jha of LOSAPA got 6,719 votes.

While forming an alliance for metropolitian leadership, the Congress, the CPN-Maoist Center, the CPN-Unified Socialist Party, and the JSP formed a group and nominated Singh, while the UML and LOSAPA formed a group and nominated Sarawagi.
