POKHARA: MAY. 24 – Dhanraj Acharya, a CPN-Unified Socialist candidate, was elected mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City. There are still 5,000 votes to be counted. However, Acharya won the election by a wide margin.

Out of the 143,226 votes cast, 138,211 votes have been counted till this morning. With 5,286 votes, Acharya leads the mayoral race. Acharya secured 56,471 votes, while CPN-Krishna UML’s Thapa polled 51,185 votes.

Shankar Kharal of the RPP secured 5,579 votes, while independent candidate Ganesh Poudel secured 2,986 votes.

Manju Gurung of the UML is on the verge of being elected deputy mayor. She currently has 4,035 votes. Gurung polled 58,582 votes, while her nearest rival, Kopila Ranabhat, secured 54,547 votes.

Ranjana Sen (Ranju) of the RPP obtained 5,581 votes for the post of deputy mayor.

So far, 30 wards votes have been counted. Wards 22, 32, and 33 have yet to have their partial votes counted.
