KATHMANDU: MAY. 23 – The Kathmandu Metropolitan City vote count is currently underway. The counting of votes in 9 wards is currently underway, according to the Election Commission (EC). Votes are currently being counted in wards 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, and 26.

So far, 135,693 votes have been counted, according to the EC. Balendra (Balen) Sah, an independent candidate, secured 46,476 votes. This represents 34% of all votes counted.

Similarly, the second-placed alliance candidate, Sirjana Singh, polled 27,799 votes. That equates to 20% of all votes counted. Sirjana secured 14% fewer votes than Balen, while UML candidate Keshav Sthapit obtained 19%. In terms of votes, Keshav trails Sirjana by 907 votes.

Balen has taken the lead in wards 9, 10, 13, 14, and 26 in the ongoing vote count. Sirjana is ahead in Ward No. 15. Sthapit also took the lead in Wards 20, 21, and 22.

In Kathmandu Metropolitan City, 167,000 votes were cast this time. 135,693 votes have been counted in this election.

As a result, 31,307 votes remain uncounted.
