BIRATNAGAR: MAY. 23 – Chiefs of all 17 municipalities of Morang have taken oath of office and secrecy. The office of the Chief Electoral Officer has administered oath of office and secrecy to the heads of all 17 municipalities by organizing a program in Biratnagar Metropolitan City.

Mayor of Biratnagar Municipal Corporation Nagesh Koirala, Chairperson of Kanepokhari Rural Municipality Rajmati Ingnam, Bhupendra Lawati of Letang Municipality, Kerabari Rural Municipality of Suman Miringching, Shyam Rajbanshi of Sunawarshi Municipality, Kedar Prasad Guragain of Sundar Haraincha Municipality, Dilip Kumar Agrawal of Rangeli Municipality, Ganga Kharel of Urlabari Municipality, Mohan Tumbapo of Patharishanischare Municipality and Dil Prasad Rai of Belbari Municipality of the municipality took the oath.

Similarly, Bobby Rai of Miklajung Rural Municipality, Jay Prakash Chaudhary of Gramthan Rural Municipality, Devraj Chaudhary of Katahari Rural Municipality, Nageshwar Prasad Singh Gangai of Ratuwamai Municipality, Jitendra Prasad Sah of Jahada Rural Municipality, Jiwach Gachchhadar of Dhanpalathan Rural Municipality and Jit Narayan Thapa Magar of Budhiganga Rural Municipality were sworn in by Chief Election Officer and District Judge Bharat Lamsal.

Addressing the swearing-in ceremony, Chief District Officer of Morang, Kanshi Raj Dahal, stressed on the need for the newly elected people’s representatives to give priority to the livelihood of the people. Citizens’ priorities should be the priority of the people’s representatives, he said, adding that the newly elected people’s representatives have the responsibility to fulfill the tasks started by the previous people’s representatives. He also urged to work in coordination with the previous people’s representatives.

Chief of the Biratnagar Municipal Corporation Nagesh Koirala said that the elected people’s representatives should work as the common people’s representatives. Thanking Rajepati Ingam, chief of Kanepokhari Rural Municipality, for giving her the responsibility of chairperson on the basis of her experience as a one-term vice-chairperson, she said that she would do a good job for another five years.

Chief Election Officer Bharat Lamsal said that the election was held peacefully in the Morang district with the understanding, coordination and cooperation of the party. “It would not have happened so quickly if there had not been coordination with the parties,” he said.

In the Morang district, CPN-UML has won the chief deputy chief in eight municipalities of the district. However, only the chief has won in one municipality and only the deputy chief in four municipalities. Similarly, the Nepali Congress has won both the chief deputy chiefs in three municipalities while only the chiefs have been elected in five municipalities. Nepali Congress has won in Belwari and CPN-Maoist Center has won in Miklajung.
