KATHMANDU: MAY. 23 – The Nepali Congress has won the mayor and deputy mayor posts in Tanahun’s Byas Municipality. Baikunthanath Neupane, a Congress candidate for mayor, and Indira Darai, a Congress candidate for deputy mayor, have been elected.

Neupane secured 12,078 votes, while his closest competitor, independent candidate Deepak Raj Joshi, polled 11,826 votes. Deepak, the son of former Congress leader Govinda Raj Joshi, was also backed by the CPN-UML.

While the deputy mayor got 12,498 votes, her closest opponent, CPN-Basundhara UML’s Gharti, polled 10,043 votes.

Neupane of the Nepali Congress was elected mayor of Byas in 2074, and Mira Joshi was elected deputy mayor.
