KATHMANDU: MAY. 21 – The great festival of the followers of Kirant religion Sakela is being celebrated with great pomp in Tundikhel of Kathmandu today, Saturday.

As of Sakela, Tundikhel looks different today. Sakela is a special festival celebrated by the Kiranti people. Sakela is celebrated twice a year by the Kirants. Udhauli and Ubhauli are other names for Sakela.

Sakela Udhauli falls on Baisakh Purnima and Sakela Ubhauli falls on Mangsir Purnima. Kirants are celebrating Sakela Udhauli today in various parts of the country.

The Sakela festival is associated with nature worship for good crops and disaster protection.
