At least 500 municipalities to get new people’s representatives from May 20

KATHMANDU: MAY. 18 – The five-year term of the people’s representatives at the local level expires tomorrow. Old people’s representatives will not go to office from Jestha 6 (May 20).

In that case, the people’s representatives elected in recent local elections across the country will have to take the leadership beginning May 20. However, the election results are unlikely to be announced in all municipalities by May 19.

“Even the postponed polling will end on May 20,” said Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, the Election Commission’s chief commissioner. ‘Vote counting in metropolitian has taken a long time. According to him, the newly elected people’s representatives of at least 500 municipalities across the country are likely to be sworn in by May 20.

The district judge must administer the oath to the mayor or chairperson of the municipality. The office-bearers of the municipality, including the ward chairperson, must be sworn in on the same day as the mayor and chairperson.

As a result, even the victorious ward chairpersons will be unable to take the oath of office and assume responsibility until the final results of the mayor, deputy mayor, and chairperson and vice-chairperson are announced.
