Afghan police arrest 6 alleged drug smugglers

KABUL: MAY. 17 – Afghan police have arrested six people on charge of smuggling drug in the eastern Parwan province, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported Tuesday.

Acting on tip-off, police searched a car on Monday, seizing 5 kg of opium poppy from the vehicle and arresting six aboard, the news agency added.

The alleged smugglers were attempting to take the contraband to the Afghan capital city Kabul, the report said.

The Taliban-run administration has banned poppy cultivation and drug production.
