BIRATNAGAR: MAY. 17 – Nepali Congress has won in Sankhuwasabha district’s Makalu Rural Municipality. While Nepali Congress candidate Aangdi Chhiring Sherpa got 3017 votes, UML candidate Bharat Kumar Katuwal got only 2478 votes.

Similarly, Manakala Rai, 27, of the CPN-Maoist, was elected vice-chairperson with 2759 votes. Chameli Rai Yamphu of the UML got only 2033 votes.

In this municipality, the Maoists and the Nepali Congress worked together. The UML won three wards, the Maoist Center two, and the Nepali Congress one.
