NC wins mayoral, deputy-mayoral posts in Dakshinkali

KATHMANDU: MAY. 16 – The mayoral and deputy-mayoral posts at the Dakshinkali municipality in Kathmandu have been won by the Nepali Congress (NC).

According to the final results of the counting of votes cast during the May 13 local level elections, Mohan Basnet secured 7,201 votes to be elected the mayor. His nearest competitor Shreeram Acharya of the CPN (UML) obtained 5,192 votes, said municipality election officer Amrita Kumari Sharma. With this, the party has recorded its first victory in the Kathmandu district. Basnet has been elected to the post for a second term.

Likewise, Basanti Dangol Tamang from the NC has won the election held for the post of deputy mayor. She will also be taking a charge of the deputy mayor in the town for a second term as she won the previous 2017 local polls as well. She secured 7,632 ballots against her nearest rival Indira Neupane of CPN (UML) who finished the race with 4,830.

The NC has registered its victory at six wards out of nine in the municipality. As Sharma said, there was an 80.87 percent voter turnout in the May 13 elections in Dakshinkali Municipality.
