DARCHULA: MAY. 16 – UML carried a ‘clean sweep’ in 8 wards in Shailyashikhar Municipality, including the mayor and deputy mayor.
Bijay Singh Dhami of the UML won the mayoral election with 5509 votes. His closest competitor, Nepali Congress candidate and incumbent mayor Amar Singh Dhami, got 4662 votes.
Similarly, UML’s Shanti Khadayat got 5648 votes. Her nearest rival Rajmati Bam Pal of the Nepali Congress polled 4,575 votes.
UML has won eight of the nine wards in Shailyashikhar, while Congress has won all of the seats in one.
