Vote counting to begin in evening after polls ends

KATHMANDU: MAY. 13 – The counting of votes will begin this evening, following the conclusion of the local level member election.

Even though polling is scheduled to continue until 5 p.m. today, voters who arrive at the polling station at that time will be allowed to vote.

The counting of votes will begin today, according to Election Commission Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel, following the all-party meeting.

According to him, preliminary information indicates that 37% of votes had been cast by 1 p.m. today. Apart from a few incidents, voting began at 7 a.m. and was carried out peacefully and enthusiastically.

Out of 753 municipalities across the country, voting is taking place in 21 thousand 955 polling stations of all the municipalities except one municipality of Kapilvastu.

Due to general disputes, polling is being attempted in some polling stations in Dolakha, Sarlahi, Ramechhap, Parbat, Humla, and Bajura.
