Liquor sale & consumption banned in view of local polls

KATHMANDU: MAY. 10 – In preparation for the May 13 local level elections, the District Administration Offices in all three districts of the Kathmandu Valley have decided to prohibit the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
In a separate notice issued today, the respective DAO informs that the decision will take effect at 12:00 am midnight today and will last until May 13, the date set for holding elections at all 753 local units in a single phase.
Ghanshyam Upadhyay, the chief district officer in Lalitpur, confirmed that the office had issued a public notice prohibiting the sale and consumption of alcohol.

According to Bhaktapur CDO Rudradevi Sharma, violating the order is punishable, and the sale and consumption of alcohol near vote-counting locations is prohibited until the counting is completed. As she stated, the use of liquor may occur during the election period, endangering security, which is why its sale and consumption is prohibited during the election.
Similarly, the Kathmandu DAO has stated that alcohol will not be sold or consumed from today’s midnight to May 13.
