Election-targeted integrated security plan implemented in Morang
According to Morang Chief District Officer Kashiraj Dahal, the plan will be implemented both before and after the election.
KATHMANDU: MAY. 10 – The Morang administration has implemented an election-targeted ‘integrated security plan’ in preparation for the May 13 local level election.
According to Morang Chief District Officer Kashiraj Dahal, the plan will be implemented both before and after the election.
He also stated that all election security arrangements had been completed. According to the District Administration Office, 13,067 people, including armed forces, investigators, and staff, have been mobilized for the Morang district election.
There are 1,972 Nepal Police, 686 Armed Police Force, 50 Night Investigation, and 3,124 Temporary Police, as well as other civil servants. For election security, a Nepal Army team has also been deployed.
Under the integrated security plan, Dahal stated that four separate security teams would be mobilized under the leadership of the Chief District Officer to provide security to the district’s 300 polling stations and 800 polling booths.
Checkpoint Closed
Similarly, the District Administration Office has issued a notice in this regard, stating that the Nepal-India border will be closed from 12 a.m. tonight to 12 a.m. on May 13. The Nepal-India border will be closed in order to hold local elections in a clean, fair, and fearless environment, according to Dahal.
According to Dahal, until the day before the election, ambulances, hearses, fire engines, marital vehicles, and vehicles carrying petroleum products were permitted to pass through the checkpoint, but no vehicles other than ambulances and fire engines were permitted to pass through.
Prohibition of Alcohol
According to the District Administration Office, the sale, distribution, and consumption of intoxicants is also prohibited in the district.
To prevent the election from being harmed, the provision was made in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Election Cell, Article 6 (th) of the Election Security (Management) Directive, 2078 BS.
As the distribution, sale, distribution, and consumption of intoxicants is prohibited in Morang from 12 a.m. tonight until the election results are announced, everyone has been asked to cooperate without engaging in the aforementioned activities. If the order is violated, action will be taken in accordance with the law, according to Dahal.
A total of 4,346 candidates have filed nominations for various posts across Morang’s 17 local levels. There are 74 candidates for chief, 70 for deputy chief, 60 for village chairman, 48 for vice-chairperson, 962 for ward chairperson, 1,640 for members, 770 for women members, and 722 for Dalit women members, according to the Biratnagar-based state election office.
According to the office, there are 39 registered political parties in Morang. However, due to withdrawals of candidates, 22 parties are currently participating in the election. Morang has a total of seven lakh fifteen thousand 223.
