Where & when do new voters get ID cards?
Voters will be able to obtain their voter identification cards at the polling station.
KATHMANDU: MAY. 10 – The local elections are just three days away. According to the Election Commission, voting will take place on May 13 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Those who have reached the age of 18 and whose names have been added to the voter list by May 12 will be eligible to vote.
The commission reports that there are 1,77,33,723 voters in the by-elections across the country. There are 87 lakh 41 thousand 530 female voters, 89 lakh 92 thousand 10 male voters, and 183 additional voters.
There are 10,756 polling stations and 21,955 polling booths across the country. 35 thousand 221 people’s representatives will be elected as a result of the election in 6 metropolitan cities, 11 sub-metropolitan cities, and 276 municipalities.
From the election, 35 thousand 221 people’s representatives will be elected in 6 metropolitan cities, 11 sub-metropolitan cities, 276 municipalities and 460 rural municipalities and 6 thousand 743 wards.
Voters are required to show their identification card in order to vote. Shaligram Sharma Poudel, the Commission’s spokesperson, stated that voting can be done using the voter identity card distributed in the previous election. “Those who have previously distributed voter ID cards will use the same ID card to vote,” he said.
Identity cards will be distributed to new voters on May 11 and 12
According to the Election Commission, more than 2.4 million new voters have been added in this local level election.
According to Poudel, voter identification cards will be distributed to new voters on May 11 and 12. Voters will be able to obtain their voter identification cards at the polling station. The commission is prepared to recognize those who have printed their names on the voters’ list.
According to the commission, those who applied for a new voter identity card because their old one was lost or damaged will be issued one on the same day.
However, the commission has not yet decided what will happen to those who do not have an identity card despite having their names on the voter list.
