KATHMANDU: MAY. 10 – There is confusion about granting two days of leave in the educational institution. Despite the government’s decision to grant two days of leave per week beginning May 15, there is confusion in implementing this provision in educational institutions.

Community schools are automatically closed for two days per year under this arrangement, but private educational institutions are confused. Private educational institution operators have stated that this provision is impractical and will not be implemented.

They argue that educational institutions should not take two days off per week as it has a direct impact on students’ learning.

According to DK Dhungana, chairperson of the Private and Residential Schools Organization Nepal (PABSON), giving students two days of leave per week would have a negative impact on their learning. According to the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, it is its responsibility to follow the government’s decision.

The ministry also stated that discussions are taking place about how to mitigate the impact of the two-day leave on students’ learning.

Deepak Sharma, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, stated that the ministry is currently discussing the issue of providing two days of leave per year and developing a teaching plan to ensure that the curriculum is completed in accordance with the syllabus.

He claims that discussions are underway about teaching full-time on Fridays, reducing annual leave, and holding classes on other days as well.

A concrete decision in this regard, according to Ministry spokesperson Sharma, will be made within Baisakh. The government is confident that the country’s economy will suffer as the price of petroleum products continues to rise.
