Chairperson dies while returning home from a meeting
He had been undergoing treatment for lung cancer for four years and had been suffering from gallstones for two months.
KATHMANDU: MAY. 8 – Abdul Barik Sheikh, the chairperson of Dhanusha’s Janaknandini Rural Municipality, died at the age of 70. On Saturday evening, Chairperson Sheikh died at his home.
He had been suffering from gallstones for two months and had been receiving treatment for lung cancer for four years. However, due to high sugar levels, the operation could not be carried out, according to Bharti Karki, the outgoing vice-chairperson of the rural municipality. Sick Sheikh remained at the meeting until Saturday evening.
Sheikh was elected as the rural municipality chairperson by the Nepali Congress in the 2074 BS election. He did not resign, despite the fact that other people’s representatives resigned in order to run in the current local elections.
