State should be transparent, responsible to people: Vice President Pun

All should obey the state policy and should not be deprived of rights guaranteed by the constitution, he said.

KATHMANDU: MAY. 5 – Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has said that state organs should be transparent and responsible to people for the country’s prosperity along with economic development.

Effective implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) is the only means for the welfare of the state and people, he said at an event organised here today on the occasion of the 15th establishment day of the National Information Commission (NIC).

“Good governance and prosperity along with economic development will be achieved only through the dissemination of information in the right way. Citizens should easily get access to the information given by the state. Only then, good governance keeps maintained.” All should obey the state policy and should not be deprived of rights guaranteed by the constitution, he said.

The state should not hesitate to provide information about public importance and be transparent and accountable towards democracy and people, he stressed, mentioning that in some cases, complaints about the state denying public information were still pouring in and such acts should come to an end.

Similarly, on the occasion, the NIC chief information commissioner, Mahendra Man Gurung said all 753 complaints relating to the denial of public information registered with the NIC for the fiscal year, 2020\21 were settled.

The NIC has honoured RTI activists Umid Prasad Bagchand, Durga Acharya, Kailash Majhi and Manoj Rauniyar with the ‘Binaya Kasaju Best RTI Campaigner Award, 2079’.

Likewise, the ‘Best Information Officer Award, 2079’ has been given to government employees, Nirmala Lama, Durga Prasad Sharma, Raju Acharya, Satya Narayan Hujadar and Gokarna Raj Wagle.

Also, the NIC employees, Bishwobandhu Paudel, Dilliram Bhatta and Hemanta Rijal were honoured with Rs 35,000 in cash each.
