Attack on rural municipality chairperson candidate

KATHMANDU: MAY. 4 – East Nawalparasi’s candidate for rural municipality chairperson has been attacked. Laxmi Pandey, a Nepali Congress candidate for chairperson, was assaulted in the district’s Hupsekot Rural Municipality.

Pandey’s team was attacked at Jhyalbas in Hupsekot at 8 p.m. on Tuesday as they were returning from the election campaign. She has accused UML cadres of assaulting her by blocking their way. Pandey has bruises on her chest and legs.

She is currently being treated at Kaligandaki Hospital in Kawasoti. Pandey previously served as the elected people’s representative in the same rural municipality council.
