Election Commission provides candidate with an election symbol

KATHMANDU: APRIL. 30 – Election symbols were provided to candidates by the Election Commission from election officials’ offices across the country.

According to election commission spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel, the candidates have been assigned election symbols based on the final list published on Friday evening. Candidates who did not withdraw their nominations by registering on April 24 and 25 were given election symbols, according to him.

Candidates from six nationally recognized political parties were assigned election symbols ranging from 1 to 6 on the ballot papers. Similarly, candidates who have not received national recognition but have registered with the commission must select the election symbol of the party in question and independent candidates must select the symbol on the ballot paper.

According to Poudel, 153,220 candidates have filed nominations for the election, including 95,253 men and 57,967 women, but 8,000 have withdrawn their names.

On May 13, elections will be held for a total of 35,221 members, including 753 local level chiefs, deputy chiefs, chairpersons and vice-chairpersons, and 6,743 ward chairpersons, as well as the same number of women and Dalit women members and 13,483 members.
