KATHMANDU: APRIL. 29 – More than 500 infrastructure construction projects in Banke have been affected due to the agitation of construction businessmen.

Chairperson of the Banke Construction Entrepreneurs’ Association, Tek Bahadur Khadka, said that about worth Rs. 7 billion small and big projects have come to a standstill in Banke after the construction businessmen stopped work demanding price adjustment according to the price hike.

According to him, the construction work of infrastructure in Banke has come to a standstill after the construction businessmen started agitation. Construction businessmen have been protesting daily at the district administration office.

Budget expenditures at the local level will be impacted as well, as construction workers have stopped working near the end of the current fiscal year. Banke is implementing eight local-level infrastructure projects.

According to Lila Raj Upadhyaya, senior Vice-Chairperson of the association, construction businessmen have to agitate as they are unable to work under the current conditions due to the unpredictability of price increases.

Following the increase in the prices of construction materials and petroleum products, construction businessmen have demanded a new rate for fiscal year 2078-079 by making necessary amendments.

Surya Bahadur Khatri, the Chief District Officer of Banke, stated that the construction businessmen have already expressed their commitment to resolving any issues that may arise in the district.
