KATHMANDU: APRIL. 28 – Four women from the same ward have filed candidacies for the same post from different parties at the local level in Myagdi for the May 13 local level election.

Four women from the same ward have been nominated for the post of deputy mayor of Beni. Amrit Devi Baniya, Pashupati Shahi, Jyoti Lamichhane and Muna Baniya are the residents of Beni Municipality-6. Baniya has registered with the Nepali Congress, Shahi with the CPN (UML), Lamichhane with the CPN (Maoist Center), and Muna with the CPN (Maoist Center) (Unified Socialist).

Amrit Devi is a member of the party’s Gandaki State Committee. She began her political career in 2054 BS by being elected as a ward member of Ward No. 9 Arthunge. She has also worked as a social activist in friends organizations, Lions Club, and Women’s Volunteers.

She is a member of the Royal Party’s District Committee Secretariat, the All Nepal Women’s Association’s District Committee Secretariat, and the Inter-Party Women’s Network’s District Chairperson. She is involved in social work through her participation in the village community forest, the school management committee, aama samuha, and other organizations.

Lamichhane, a Maoist center candidate, is a member of the party’s state committee. She began her political career with Akhil-Revolutionary. She has been involved in politics since 2060 BS and is currently a member of several organizations. Lamichhane had been defeated in the previous election by a margin of 34 votes.

Muna, the Unified Socialist candidate, is a member of the party’s central committee as well as the district in-charge. Since 2048 BS, she has been involved in politics.
