6 women candidates for the chief post in Tanahun

TANAHUN: APRIL. 28 – Six women have registered to run for the position of chief in the upcoming Tanahun local level election.

Four women have applied for the position of chief of Byas Municipality, as well as chairpersons of Devghat and Myagde Rural Municipalities. Mayadevi Rana, a member of the Nepali Congress, has filed her nomination for the post of chairperson of Myagde Rural Municipality.

She has registered her candidacy for the second term. In the last local level election, Rana defeated her CPN (UML) rival and won the election.

Similarly, Anita Thapa Magar from the Mongol National Organization has registered her candidature for the post of the chief of Byas Municipality. Anjana Thapa has registered her candidature from the Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist-Leninist).

Parbati Karki from Swatantra and Meena Thapa from Rastriya Janamukti Party have been nominated for the chief post. Sushila Nepal has registered her candidature from the CPN (Maoist Center) for the post of Devghat Rural Municipality chairperson.

While Congress has formed alliances with the ruling party at three local levels, women have lost the opportunity to lead the local level chief/deputy chief. From the alliance of the Congress and the UCPN (Maoist), only male candidates have been fielded for the post of Chief and Deputy Chief of Shuklaganki. The alliance of Congress and CPN (Unified Socialist) has fielded male candidates for both the post of Chief and Deputy Chief of Bhimad Municipality.

From the alliance of Congress and Unified Socialists, only male candidates have been fielded for the post of chairperson and vice-chairperson of Ghiring Rural Municipality.
