Candidate for Dalit member vacant in five wards

KATHMANDU: APRIL. 27 – It has been found that there is no candidature from the Dalit community in five wards of Chumanuwri Rural Municipality of North Gorkha.

Assistant Election Officer Bhimsen Shrestha has informed that there is no candidature in the reservation quota provided for the Dalit community in wards 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7 of the rural municipality. He said that although there was a mandatory provision of one Dalit member in the ward committee, there was no candidature for the post in those wards.

According to Election Officer Shrestha, only two out of seven wards of the rural municipality have Dalit candidates. According to Election Officer Shrestha, only Dalit women candidates have been fielded in wards 2 and 3 of the municipality. In ward no. 2, Lhakpa Diki Kami has been nominated while in ward no. 3, Futani Kamini from CPN-Maoist Center, Niramaya BK from Nepali Congress and Nima Kami from JSP have been nominated.

Meanwhile, eight candidates, including the ward chairperson, have been elected unopposed in Chumanuwri Rural Municipality. In Ward No. 6 CPN-Maoist’s ward chairperson candidate Saroj Lama, members Thime Gamjo Lama, Sonam Lama and Dolma Lama have been elected unopposed.

Karma Sandup Lama from the Nepali Congress, Dejan Dolma from the UCPN (Maoist) and Pasang Lama from the UML are the only candidates in the rural municipality-1. Sonam Sango of Ward No. 5 Bihi is also the only female candidate. According to Election Officer Shrestha, the UCPN-M has unopposed Lhakpa Diki Kami member in Ward No. 2.
