KATHMANDU: APRIL. 25 – The CPN (Unified Socialist Party) claims to have over 30,000 voters in Kathmandu Metropolitan City. According to UCPN (Maoist) leader Jeevan Ram Shrestha, “the election will reveal exactly how much public opinion there is.” ‘However, I believe we have 30 to 35 thousand voters in Kathmandu Metropolitan City.’

Bidya Sundar Shakya, the mayor elected from the UML in the 2074 BS election, received 64,913 votes. Shrestha claims that the Unified Socialists have 30,000 to 35,000 votes out of that total. “Our party now has half of the votes brought by Bidya Sundar,” Shrestha told Makalu Khabar. “We have good public opinion in Kathmandu with us.”

Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal, then senior leaders of the Unified Socialist UML, founded the party. The UCPN (Maoist), which registered with the Election Commission on August 25, 2020, is currently allied with five other parties. At the time, Nepal-Khanal had taken 20% of the UML and turned it into a unified socialist party.

The Unified Socialists have currently received the ticket for the post of deputy mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan. He has nominated Rameshwar Shrestha as the deputy chief candidate. Leader Shrestha stated that he would back Sirjana Singh for mayor. “We will continue to support Congress leader Sirjana Singh, who has joined the coalition as a candidate,” he said. “All of our voters will back her.”
