Division between Congress & Maoists in Lalitpur
KATHMANDU: APRIL. 24 – In Lalitpur, there will be electoral coordination only between the Nepali Congress and the Maoist Center. As per the agreement reached on Sunday, both the mayor and the deputy mayor of Godawari Municipality of Lalitpur will be taken over by the Nepali Congress.
The chief of Mahalaxmi Municipality will be given to the Maoist center and the deputy mayor will be given to the Nepali Congress.
Similarly, the UCPN (M) has given Konjyosom Rural Municipality chairperson and vice-chairperson to the Nepali Congress. The Congress is going to get the Bagmati Rural Municipality chairperson while the Congress is going to get the vice-chairperson. Mahankal Rural Municipality chairperson and vice-chairperson are being taken by Congress and Maoists respectively.
In Lalitpur Metropolitan, the ruling coalition has already agreed to give the mayor to Congress and the deputy mayor to the Maoists. After the agreement was reached, Saral Sahayatri, chairperson of the Maoist Center Bagmati and Indra Bahadur Baniya, President of the Nepali Congress Bagmati issued a joint statement.
Unified socialists are irritated by this. Unified socialists, who are already dissatisfied with the alliance, have opposed it. Amrit Timalsina, Lalitpur deputy in-charge of the Unified Socialists, said, “These two parties have shown no arrogance.”
He accused the Congress-Maoists of not behaving as per the decision. He added, “We will defeat it.”
