Nomination of candidates started across the country, this is the election schedule

KATHMANDU: APRIL. 24 – Nomination of candidates for the upcoming local level election, 2079 BS has started. The Election Commission has stated that the nomination of candidates has started from 10 am in the office of the Election Officer established at 753 local levels of the country.

The commission has made a schedule for the candidates to register their nominations from 10 am to 5 pm today and also from 10 am to 5 pm on Monday.

Candidates, political parties, and the Election Officer’s office have been unable to cope with the pressure of registering nominations in one day, as was the case in the previous local level elections. Based on the suggestions, the commission has clarified that the nomination registration program will be held on Sunday and Monday.

On April 21, the Office of the Election Officer was established at local level centers across the country. According to the law, any person who qualifies to be a candidate in a local level election may register his or her nomination at the office of the relevant election officer at any time.

Candidates for the posts of Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Chief and Deputy Chief at the local level include a copy of the certificate of Nepali citizenship, a bank voucher or cash receipt on deposit, a formal letter from the party in the case of a party candidate and the name of the ward chairperson. The ward member will have to submit the NISSA and the self-declaration of the candidate whose name is included in the voter list of the ward concerned.

According to the commission, Dalit women’s ward members must also prove that they are members of the Dalit community.

According to the commission, the person nominating a candidate for the position of chief or deputy chief of the local level must deposit Rs. 1,500, ward chairperson Rs. 1,000, and ward member Rs. 500. Women, Dalit, deprived, and minority candidates will receive a 50% discount on the deposit amount.

The final list of candidates will be published on Monday evening. To lodge a complaint against the candidate on April 26, to check the nomination papers on April 27 and 28 and to decide on the complaint after investigation, to publish the list of the nominated candidates on April 28 and there is a schedule for the candidates to withdraw their names and publish the final list of candidates on April  29 and to provide election symbols to the candidates on April 30.

The commission has stated that all the work related to a nomination will be done from the office of the election officer.
