BIRATNAGAR: APRIL. 24 – Until the day of nomination registration, the Nepali Congress has not decided who will be the candidate.

Despite the Election Commission setting a Sunday and Monday deadline for nomination registration, most municipalities in State 1 have yet to select candidates.

Even after the registration period for the upcoming local level election has begun, there is a lot of enthusiasm in the selection of candidates due of the alliance.

According to the Nepali Congress State Committee, the ruling Nepali Congress was unable to decide on a candidate for all of the state’s districts until Sunday morning.

Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi, Vice President of Congress State 1, stated that work was underway to select candidates in six hilly districts. He claimed that candidates for the districts of Taplejung, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, and Terhathum had already been chosen. Other municipalities’ selection processes have been muddled so far.

According to Rayamajhi, the discussion could not proceed because no district-level candidates in the states had made a recommendation.

The names of the candidates are required to be sent to the districts and states via the party municipality level.  The state committee has said that the name of the municipality and the district should not be recommended as there is confusion in the municipality and district after it was said to form an alliance.

The center will decide on one metropolitan and two sub-metropolitan municipalities out of the 137 in State 1, but the state committee will decide on the rest. The NC State Committee has not begun discussions about selecting candidates from the politically important states of Jhapa, Morang, and Sunsari.

As all Morang district municipalities were asked to recommend names today, Bhaktinath Majhi, vice-president of the district, stated that the names would be recommended in all municipalities by the evening. “Names have so far come from some municipalities,” he explained. “We will send the names to the states based on the district committee’s decision.”
