Local level election activities in federal capital Kathmandu
KATHMANDU: APRIL. 22 – Local-level elections are in full swing in the federal capital Kathmandu.
Party leaders and cadres are busy in the meeting. The local, district, state and central level mechanisms of the party are busy with the homework of deciding who will contest the election at which level. The election debate has taken precedence in Chowk, Chautara, and tea shops. Tickets are being sought by political leaders and activists at all levels. Kathmandu has one metropolitan and 10 municipalities.
According to reports, the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee, led by the ruling coalition, met today to decide on the chiefs of the Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Biratnagar Metropolitan Corporations. The main opposition CPN-UML has stated that the final decision will be made on Saturday. The state committee will distribute tickets to the leaders of other municipalities. The ward level decision will be made by the party’s district mechanism.
Since Thursday, election offices have been set up in the municipalities of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Shankharapur, Kageshwari Manohara, Gokarneshwor, Budhanilkantha, Tokha, Tarkeshwor, Nagarjuna, Chandragiri, Kirtipur, and Dakshinkali. Samita Basnet, Information Officer of the District Election Office, Kathmandu, informed the RSS that the office of the Chief Electoral Officer was held at the National Assembly House and other municipal offices. Candidate registration will take place on April 24 and 25.
Kathmandu has a total of 637,775 voters. There are 329,545 women, 308,221 men, and nine other voters in Kathmandu, according to the District Election Office.
