WHO Director-General Dr Tedros calls on President Bhandari
KATHMANDU: APRIL. 22 – Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), has paid President Bidya Devi Bhandari a courtesy call.
They met this morning at Rashtrapati Bhawan’s Sheetal Niwas, according to Tika Dhakal, President Bhandari’s Press Advisor. During the meeting, President Bhandari thanked WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros for distributing the vaccine equally to all countries affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, according to her.
Dr. Tedros thanked Nepal for vaccinating a large number of people against COVID-19. Dr. Tedros briefed President Bhandari on Nepal’s contribution to the health sector on the occasion.
Dr. Tedros is interested in Nepal’s health-care policy. He also briefed President Bhandari on the World Health Organization’s assistance to Nepal.
Dr. Tedros, who arrived in Nepal on Thursday at the invitation of Health and Population Minister Birodh Khatiwada, met with National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, Health and Population Minister Birodh Khatiwada, and Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka. Dr. Poonam Khetrapal, Regional Director, WHO Southeast Asia Regional Office, and other WHO officials accompany the Director-General.
The WHO team is scheduled to leave Nepal on April 23.
