Resigns from state assembly to run for mayor of Bharatpur

KATHMANDU: APRIL. 21 – Bijay Subedi, a Bagmati state member of the main opposition CPN (UML), has resigned to run for mayor of Bharatpur.

On Thursday, Subedi resigned in front of State Assembly Speaker Sanukumar Shrestha. Subedi, who was elected as a member of the state assembly from ‘B’ of Constituency No. 2 of Chitwan, is about to become the mayor of Bharatpur.

The Election Commission has made it a rule that candidates must resign from their posts in order to run in the May 13 local elections.

Earlier, UML had decided to field Subedi as its candidate. A meeting of the metropolitan committee held in the presence of the party’s central deputy general secretary Pradeep Gyawali had decided to make Subedi the mayoral candidate.
