KATHMANDU: APRIL. 21 – A soldier has been killed in a firing incident inside the Samsher Dal battalion of the Nepal Army at Gorusinge in Kapilvastu district. Kopila Rajbanshi, 24, of Jhapa Gauradaha-1, was seriously injured in the firing on Wednesday around 7 p.m.

She was shot in the chest and abdomen and died this morning while receiving treatment at Bhairahawa’s Universal College of Medical Sciences. On Wednesday night, she was rushed to Lumbini State Hospital in Butwal but was later transferred to Universal College of Medical Sciences for further treatment.

Rajbanshi died in the morning, according to DSP JC Shah of the Kapilvastu District Police Office. He said that despite plans to transport her to Kathmandu for treatment at night, she was treated in Bhairahawa as the helicopter did not arrive.

Although military sources claim Rajbanshi fired the shots, the cause of the incident has yet to be revealed. The incident is being looked into.
