Recommendation for 6 journalist candidates from Karnali
SURKHET: APRIL. 20 – The election, which will take place on May 13, is approaching. In Karnali, the party is also recommending candidates for wards and municipalities.
In some districts of Karnali, political parties have even decided not to form an alliance while in some districts, no decision has been made on whether to form an alliance or not.
Meanwhile, candidates for wards and municipalities in Karnali have been recommended by journalists from various political parties. So far, six journalists from Karnali’s five districts have been recommended for the local level election.
A total of six journalists 2 each from Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist and UML have been recommended for the post.
Similarly, CPN-UML has recommended journalist Dipendra Oli for the post of ward chairperson of Gurans Rural Municipality-8 of Dailekh. He was previously the station manager of Radio Jagran FM, which broadcasts from Surkhet, while he was the former vice-chairperson of Press Chautari Nepal Surkhet.
Oli also served as the press advisor to former Karnali chief Govind Prasad Kaluni. Oli is still running an online portal called Khabar Bazar. He is also the secretary of the UML Gurans Rural Municipality.
Similarly, CPN-UML has recommended Bir Bahadur Giri for the post of Barekot Rural Municipality chairperson of Jajarkot. Giri is the former in-charge of Chautari Nepal Karnali State Committee and vice-chairperson of Chautari Nepal while he is also the secretary of UML district committee.
Similarly, journalist Ganesh Kanchan Bharati has been recommended for the post of Simta Rural Municipality chairperson of Surkhet. The CPN-Maoist Central Committee has recommended Bharati for the post. He is the former vice-chairperson of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Surkhet and is currently the treasurer of the working committee of the federation Karnali.
Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Karnali chairperson Deviram Devkota has been recommended for the post of chairperson of Sanni Triveni Rural Municipality of Kalikot. He has been recommended for the post by the CPN-Maoist.
After the party recommended him to be the candidate for the post of municipality chairperson, Devkota posted his status on social network Facebook and said, “As I have to become a candidate for the post of municipality chairperson, I have decided to resign from the post of Karnali state chairperson of the federation as per the constitution and ethics of the federation..”
Meanwhile, journalist Janak KC Bheri has been recommended by the Nepali Congress for the post of mayor of Jajarkot. KC is the former chairperson of the Press Union Federation of Journalists Jajarkot.
Similarly, Nabin Poudel, chairperson of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Salyan, has also been recommended for the post. He has been recommended by the Nepali Congress for the post of Mayor of Sharada Municipality.
