KABUL: APRIL. 19 – Twin blasts claimed six lives and injured 11 others in the Dasht-e-Barchi area of Afghanistan’s Kabul city on Tuesday, Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said.

“In the two blasts that happened next to Abdul Rahim Shahid school at 10:00 a.m. local time today in Police District 18, six countrymen were martyred and 11 others sustained an injury,” Zadran said on his Twitter account.

The victims, according to Zadran, belonged to the Shiite Muslims sect.

Without providing more details, Zadran added that security forces cordoned off the area and the investigation was underway.

In the meantime, eyewitnesses without giving their names say that three blasts were heard and two of them targeted education centres in the Dasht-e-Barchi area on the western edge of Kabul city.

According to the eyewitnesses, the number of casualties is higher than reported.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility.

School and education centres had in the past been attacked in the Dasht-e-Barchi area and the hardliner Daesh or Islamic State (IS) outfit claimed responsibility.
