KATHMANDU: APRIL. 19 – The government has begun to provide Vitamin A and parasite medicine to children throughout the country.

Under the National Vitamin Program, the Ministry of Health and Population has begun giving Vitamin A to children aged 6 to 59 months, as well as parasite medicine to children aged 12 to 59 months.

Today and tomorrow, 2.7 million children will be given Vitamin A capsules, and 2.4 million children will be given parasitic medicine. Vitamin A capsules have been administered since 1993, and parasite medicine has been administered along with Vitamin A since 2001.

The Vitamin A program will mobilize 52,000 health volunteers and 15,000 health workers. Twice a year in the first phase on 2nd and 20th of October and in the second phase on 6th and 20th of April the children are given Vitamin A and parasitic medicine.

According to the government, children in districts where elephantiasis prevention programs were carried out in Falgun (Feb/March) and Chaith (March/April) may have been given parasitic medicine only after consulting with the children or their parents.
