Local elections: Coalition meeting today to finalize the division
KATHMANDU: APRIL. 19 – The ruling coalition is meeting today to finalize the division of the metropolis and sub-metropolis in the May 13 local level election. Following the failure of Monday’s meeting, the alliance’s top leaders will begin discussions at 11:30 a.m. today.
On Monday, the ruling Nepali Congress, the CPN (Maoist Center), the CPN (Unified Socialist), the JSP Nepal, and the Rastriya Janamorcha failed to reach an agreement on a metropolis and a sub-metropolis.
However, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, a Congress leader, claims that agreement has been reached in many places.
He stated that the meeting discussed the material situation of six metropolitan cities and eleven sub-metropolitan wards, and that it was agreed to finalize it today.
He stated that all coalition leaders had agreed to move forward in a positive manner as consensus had been reached in many places. By coordinating the election, the ruling coalition has agreed to field candidates.
According to Himlal Puri, secretary of the Rastriya Janata Morcha Party and member of the task force led by Ram Chandra Poudel, who attended yesterday’s meeting, the Congress is almost ready to take Kathmandu, Biratnagar, and Lalitpur metropolises. According to him, the meeting agreed to give the CPN-Maoist Center Bharatpur and the JSP Birgunj.
The alliance in the Pokhara metropolis is still undecided. Pokhara has been claimed by the Unified Socialists. However, the issue has not been resolved, despite the fact that Congress has also claimed there.
